The Instructional Resource Center supports effective teaching and learning with technology to enhance learning experiences and the quality of work life at the University. We have seven dedicated staff members, and between eight and twelve lab assistants. We operate a walk-in lab in 427 Innovation Hall as well as a teaching lab for workshops and showcase events in 334 Innovation Hall. The walk-in lab features approximately 14 work stations, including support for digital imaging, video editing, web development, scantron data mining, scanning, and a host of other software applications.

The IRC presents a full schedule of free workshops (for faculty and teaching staff with current valid IDs), offers walk-in and prearranged consultations, hosts several technology showcases a semester, works with faculty for effective use of our electronic teaching environments, supports our course management tools, and develops resources for learning about technology use.

The Instructional Resource Center mission statement summarizes our specific purpose within the Division of Instructional and Technology Support Services (DoIT):

Our mission is to serve as a resource for teaching faculty, instructional support staff, and academic units seeking to improve instruction by:

  • providing training and support for instructional improvement and technology to enhance student learning
  • supporting the use of technology-based courseware in classrooms
  • supporting instructional initiatives University-wide
