Communities of Interest
One of the goals of DoIT’s Instructional Resource
Center is to increase its visibility as resource for developing more effective
Communities of Interest or Communities of Practice. The American Association
for Higher Education has defined a Community of Practice as: “powerful
interpersonal networks within which you will collaborate with others to
create and share knowledge around a common area of interest and practice.”
The IRC would like to tap the potential of these kinds of communities
as informal learning venues for teaching with technology by encouraging
the sharing of lessons learned and best practices across different academic
communities in the University. The IRC plays an important role in helping
to connect people who share an interest in integrating teaching and technology.
Listed below is a selection of GMU and nonGMU Teaching
with Technology focused Communities of Interest. Feel free to lurk in
any of our GMU communities, before you participate. Email us at irc@gmu.edu
to suggest an interest group that you would like to start or for support.
