Definitions:

The words Directory and Folder mean the same thing and will be used interchangeably below. It is a way of managing and storing files. You will see the word folder when using Windows Explorer and you will see Dir for directory when working on the server.

Steps:

Launch WS_FTP and Configure if necessary

  1. Double-click on the WS_FTP icon on the desktop OR use the Start/Programs/Ws_FTP/Ws_FTP menu process to open the tool
  2. Click on the New button to set up WS_FTP for the first time
  3. Enter the following information, replacing myname gmu connection with your actual name gmu connection. Also replace myusername with your actual Mason username. This is the same username and password you use when logging into Telnet.

  1. Click apply to save the profile settings
  2. Click okay to connect. If you are asked for your password again, enter it.

Observe the Interface

  1. On the left - notice that the websites that you may want to have inside my public_html directory have been stored in a location version on public_html and are shown on the screen. Locate your folders and files by using a combination of four options: the chgdir button, the green up arrow, the [-c-] icon, and double-clicking on the applicable folder.
  2. On the right - notice the initial screen has a public_html directory. Double-click on the directory to open it and prepare it to receive files.

Transfer files

  1. Highlight the content, on the left, that you want to upload.
  2. Make sure the right side is ready to recieve. This example, shows that the interview web site will be transferred and will replace the existing interview directory. If you do not want to replace an entire directory, open each on both sides and upload just the files you want.

Warning- Be careful! If you single-click on a file, you select it. If you double-click, you either download or upload it. If you double-click on a directory, it opens that directory.
