How to create an online lecture in a snap that includes Powerpoint slides and Synchronized Voice-Over

Requirements:

  • (software only available for use in the IRC lab)

  • Technical:
    • Windows XP and Powerpoint 2000 or 2002
    • SofTV.ShowandTell software by SofTV.net
    • Microphone
    • Large amount of available web space on a server.

  • Production:
    • The Powerpoint file you want to convert and narrate.
    • Web account information for uploading the finished project to your website, or a large capacity storage disk to take the project files away with you. (A 10-15 minute narrated presentation can easily consume 50-100MB)

STEP 1: Setup

  • Enter the course name, date, topic, speaker name, email address, and choose your PowerPoint™ file.

  • If you like, choose a photo of the speaker.

  •  
  • By clicking on More Features, you can also add files for students to be able to download easily from the lecture page. 
 
STEP 2: Preview Slides
  • Preview your slides, to help you get ready to give your presentation.

  •  
  • Edit the title and notes of each slide if you wish.

  •  
  • Step 2 is entirely optional.
 
STEP 3: Record
  • Check your sound with our built-in sound meter. This gives you a chance to adjust your microphone if necessary.

  • Start recording.

  • While recording, you get a full-screen shot of your PowerPoint™ slides, which you navigate through while you give your presentation.
 

STEP 4: Upload

  • Upload the multimedia presentation to the server or staging area.

  • Your Administrator sets up the upload parameters, so YOU the USER don't have to worry about it!

  • Includes options to make it easy for your administrator to set up for uploading to Blackboard. 
  • sofTV.ShowAndTell automatically creates a web page with your lecture or presentation on it. Students or viewers can watch and listen to it streamed over the Internet, or download and play back locally on their own computer.

  • Web page includes your voice narration, and your PowerPoint™ slides moving along in sync with your voice.

  • Web page also provides your viewers with thumbnail images of your slides, and a table of contents. By clicking on the thumbnails and the table of contents, viewers can navigate through your presentation.
